Re/assemble with The Refinery: Peta O’Hara
Thinking about applying for The Refinery 2023? Who better to hear from than Refinery alumni. We caught up with Peta O’Hara from the 2021 cohort to find out about her experience with the program.
Biggest surprise?
It was so much better than I had imagined! The passion the project creators brought to the table weekly, along with mentors and guests was all time.
What was the value of Refinery to your business?
Understanding the difference between a side hustle and a full time project. I'm still working it out but I'm pretty stoked with how it's going so far.
What opportunities have arisen since completing The Refinery?
I launched a passion project / gig from my Studio in conjunction with Red Chair events and Anywhere festival, cool public art projects, and collaborations with Horizon Festival. I've also welcomed my first artist in residence in The Butiner Studios and am preparing for another exciting 2023 - but with balance (famous last words).
Would you recommend The Refinery?
Never be afraid to overachieve was the best advice given to me. This program is so unique and invaluable. I was stoked to be selected so that’s a yes from me.
