Urban Ecologies
Urban Ecologies is an artist residency open to mid-career and senior creative practitioners interested in critically applying new, sustainable technologies in their practice with a focus on the built environment.
Across five months, the selected artist will develop a new body of work and have access to UniSC resources including the Maker Space, the first MIT-accredited Fab Lab in Queensland, the CAVE2, a powerful visualisation tool that can immerse its audience in visual and audio content, and have access to the Creative Ecologies Research Cluster and its associated network of practitioners and researchers.
November 2024 - April 2025
About Urban Ecologies
This is not a space-based residency and there is no requirement to be on-site at UniSC for a specified time. The residency provides access to specialist resources that will enable you to learn and critically apply new technologies in your practice with the support of specialists. The successful candidate will have a creative practice that is focused on issues of urban sustainability and regeneration and a desire to experiment with and apply new technologies as a tool to engage audiences in new ways.
We invite applications from artists or creative practitioners (e.g. designers, urban planners) who are working in interdisciplinary or experimental ways.
Towards the end of the residency period, the successful applicant will be required to deliver a talk and showing of the work (or work in progress) developed during the residency. The form of this showing will be negotiated with the artist.
What you will receive from The Refinery:
$5,000 artist fee
$1,000 towards production
time with UniSC technical and academic staff
use of UniSC equipment and spaces.
