About Kโgari Field Trip
R|Short Program: Kโgari Field Trip is an experiential program held on World Heritage listed Kโgari across 4 days and 3 nights. It offers a unique opportunity for artists to explore the convergence of art, science, technology and the environment in place and discover the potential of creative technologies within their practice.
The workshop program encourages interdisciplinary thinking, collaboration and experimentation with cutting-edge tools. Grounded in a respect for Indigenous knowledges, the program will offer embodied experiences and the opportunity to connect with and learn from Butchulla/Badtjala
Traditional Owners.

About Kโgari Field Trip
The diverse ecosystems of K'gari are rich with cultural and ecological significance providing the perfect environment for exploring creative technologies, including spatial audio, XR, drone photography and locative media.
The program will be delivered by UniSC academics and guest artists with the support of Butchulla/Badtjala Traditional Owners.
Artists will be introduced to these cutting-edge tools opening up new opportunities for creative expression and enabling application to the environment in nuanced, ethical and innovative ways.
This program includes:
Artist and academic-led workshops
3 nights accommodation at K'gari Research Station
Vegetarian catering by Nooks and Cooks
Return transfer from Rainbow Beach to Kโgari Research Station
Use of technical equipment
Mentoring
About Kโgari
Kโgari is a UNESCO World Heritage site and part of the Great Sandy Biosphere Reserve, located in the Southeast Queensland Bioregion of eastern Australia. Kโgari is the largest sand island in the world and home to a complex ecosystem of sand dunes and lakes with subtropical forests growing solely on sand.
About the facility
UniSCโs Kโgari Research Station is a base to explore, research, learn and stay on the worldโs largest sand island, offering participants the unique opportunity to explore Kโgariโs unique ecosystems.
Access
The workshops will be physically active including night walking. A reasonable level of physical fitness is necessary. The group will visit sites that feature different and uneven terrain, and please note the K'gari Research Station is not accessible. examples of previous work provided as a PDF or a link to a website
1-2 paragraphs addressing why youโre interested in participating in the program.
Application Process
What are we looking for?
Applications will be assessed based on the following criteria. You must:
Be a practising artist interested in the application of creative technologies in your work
Be open-minded to interdisciplinary experiences and new technologies
Show a demonstrated interest in natural ecologies and the environment in your practice.
Fees
The fee to participate in this program is $1500 plus GST per person. Successful participants will be invoiced upon notification.
Payments can be made up-front or via instalments.
